Karl Plattner

The work of Karl Plattener is characterized by the poverty suffered in his youth and by the particularity and aridity of the landscape of his valley of origin, the Val Venosta. Loneliness, isolation, emptiness, old age and death constitute, in addition to the expressive representations of the landscape, the basis of his works. However, all his paintings achieve a beautiful aesthetic effect.

Plattner's painting, rich in character and interpretation, made his works unmistakable and therefore his fame soon extended beyond the provincial borders. Karl Plattner undoubtedly became one of the most important artistic personalities of South Tyrol in the post-war period.

His way of working, characterized by a discipline and patience of other times, facilitated him not only in painting on boards, but also in drawing and etching, which increasingly took hold among his creations.
