Engraver and draftsman (Nancy 1592 or 1594 - therein 1635) Callot in 1607 he began to reproduce the works of great painters by engraving. In 1608 he went to Rome; from 1611 he was then in Florence, where, choosing etching as the medium most responsive to his creativity, he engraved his first masterpieces: War of love, Beauty war (1616), i Whims (1617), the Impruneta Fair (1620). In 1621 he returned to Nancy, with material partly elaborated during his Italian stay, he printed i Balls of Sfessania, Les Bohémiens, i Barons, etc. In his large and airy compositions, the most unbridled fantastic freedom is accompanied by the sharp exactness of the sign and the extremely sensitive modulation of light. The favorite themes (soldiers, beggars, etc.) are the reasons for a vision that is at the same time very elegant and picturesque.
