Giant Hercules

Ercole Gigante was an artist of the 19th century. Lover of Renaissance-inspired figurative art, he was an important representative of the Posillipo school, of which the best known Giacinto was the founder. He was not, as is often thought, an imitator of his brother but developed a very personal taste. He becomes a bearer and reinterprets the Neapolitan landscapes with the expanses of color. No less important are the works of human representation, with a light touch and the various drawings that remain in his memory to this day. In fact, he leaves us this corpus operae of considerable importance following a death at a young age in 1860.
