Domenico Cantatore

Italian painter (Ruvo di Puglia 1906 - Paris 1998), Domenico Cantatore was formed in the orbit of C. Carrà and G. Morandi; in Paris he studied Modigliani and Picasso. His painting, despite its up-to-date formal research, is permeated with human content and retains a romantic accent in the deep accords of color.

In 1929 he held his first solo show at the Galleria Milano, his landscapes, his still lifes, the dark and enigmatic figures of commoners are firmly anchored to his homeland.

Domenico Cantatore's painting continues to express itself with a straightforward, hard and unequivocal language, which gives voice to the memories and emotions of childhood.
Death suddenly caught him while on vacation with his wife in Paris on May 22, 1998.
