Mario Colonna

Mario Colonna was born in Bari in 1946, son and grandson of the painters Umberto and Nicola, to whom he owes his first and most substantial training; he graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts and was Professor of Engraving Techniques at the Academy of Fine Arts in Bari which he also directed from 1981 to 2005. Extensive portraiture in both painting and sculpture, including the bronze bust of the Honorable Moro for the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate.
Among the achievements to mention: the cycle of large stained glass windows for the Sanctuary of San Gaetano in Milan and the Sanctuary of Jaddico - Brindisi, the frescoes in the Church of S. Francesco in Ostuni, the mosaics, the stained glass windows, the bronzes, the paintings murals for the Holy Trinity in Bari, the great war memorial with bronze and stone sculptures in Ariano Irpino, the Monument at the Commissariat of Marina di Taranto and the Carabinieri in Minervino di Lecce and the bronze altars of the Sanctuary of S. Fara and di S. Anna in Bari. He currently lives and works in Bari.
