Antonio Piccinni

Antonio Piccinni is known to the public of scholars, amateurs and collectors for having made engravings of rare value and quality and for having tirelessly dedicated himself to the graphic elaboration of subjects of his own invention. Trained artistically at the Institute of Fine Arts in Naples where he had Domenico Morelli among his masters who called him "the king of designers", he arrived in Rome at the beginning of the 1870s, winner of a scholarship. As soon as he arrived in the new capital, Piccinni began to turn to the original engraving for his own pleasure: he executed refined etchings using the technical teachings of the great etchers of the past.

Over the course of his vast engraved production, the subjects treated in the works include anonymous characters who animated the streets, cafes, theaters, schools and much more.
